Incentises to Spend

๐Ÿ”น What can I spend UTIL on?โ€‹

UTIL is used to access and pay for services within the Matou DAO ecosystem.

  • Purchases: Access to DAO tools and modules (for example: community registration, voting tools)
  • Usage fees: Storage, voting, fundraising, and other pay-per-use features
  • Service unlocks: Premium features, automation, and attestations

See tokenomics/util/util-overview for examples of tools and pricing models.

๐Ÿ”น Why use UTIL instead of something else?โ€‹

  • Aligned: Using UTIL supports Matouโ€™s contribution-first model and treasury rules
  • Programmable: We can set rules and incentives in code (for example: mint/burn, allowlists)
  • Interoperable: Planned support with local community tokens and DAO workflows
  • Accountable: Activity is on-chain, transparent, and overseen by Treasury Stewards

๐Ÿ”น Why incentivise spending?โ€‹

  • More real use: Spending turns held tokens into services and outcomes
  • Steadier demand: Encourages use over hoarding, helping stability
  • Contribution flywheel: Spending funds innovation and operations which inturn continues to create value for the ecosystem
  • Better pricing: Real usage data improves pricing and budgeting
  • Healthy behaviour: Rewards target participation and learning, not speculation
  • Inclusive access: Well-targeted incentives (rebates, credits, or tiered discounts) lower barriers for new or resource-constrained participants.

Common mechanisms (governance-controlled):

  • Time-bound credits or rebates for priority services
  • Tiered discounts for verified contributors or high-impact use cases
  • Volume/loyalty pricing and usage streak rewards
  • Spend-to-earn attestations that prove participation (non-transferable)

๐Ÿ”น How are prices set?โ€‹

  • Main: Prices are in UTIL
  • Reference: Treasury may anchor price ranges to outside values (for example: ADA or NZD) to help stability
  • Adjustable: Treasury policy and votes can update prices

๐Ÿ”น Is UTIL the only way to pay?โ€‹

  • Default: UTIL is the default method for all Matou services
  • Exchange path: Users can exchange FIAT with the Treasury for UTIL when needed
  • Future options: Governance may allow for other tokens or assets to be used

๐Ÿ”น Governance and moderationโ€‹

  • Policy: Treasury policy and DAO votes set prices and payment methods
  • Safety: Smart contracts and operations enforce anti-abuse rules and rate limits
  • Transparency: All changes are public and auditable
