Our Journey: The History of Mātou Collective

The Beginning

Mātou Collective emerged from a recognition that Indigenous communities needed better digital tools and governance frameworks. Our story begins with a simple question: How can we combine traditional Indigenous wisdom with modern technology to serve communities better?

Early Days (2022-2023)

🌱 Seeds of an Idea

The collective started as a small group of technologists, researchers, and community members who shared a vision:

  • Indigenous communities deserved better digital tools
  • Traditional governance could inform modern solutions
  • Technology should serve cultural values, not replace them

🏛️ First Steps: TribalDAOs Concept

Our initial focus was on understanding how Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) could be adapted for Indigenous contexts:

  • Research phase exploring existing governance models
  • Community consultations with Indigenous leaders
  • Literature review of traditional governance structures
  • Initial framework development

Building Foundations (2023-2024)

📚 TribalDAOs Blueprint v1 & v2

Our first attempts at creating governance frameworks:

  • Basic structure for Indigenous DAOs
  • Initial governance models incorporating cultural elements
  • Community feedback gathering and integration
  • Lessons learned from early implementations
